Army of Two The 40th Day

There’s a favorite game of mine and some other gamers out there though not many. When it came out a few years ago it flew under the radar and its unique co-op game play passed up a few unlucky gamers. That game was Army of Two and if you haven’t played it yet then you should, it’s cheap now, its fun, you can pimp out weapons as in a golden shotgun, oh yeah and it’s cheap now did I mention that?

In the 1st game you and your partner were in the army, and then became private military. Therefore you and your partner always ended up doing the government’s dirty work. Then the government pretty much fucks you over; so you take matters into your own hands. By doing this you and your partner start a private company that’s basically mercs for hire.

Well, EA has a new Army of Two coming soon on 1/12/2010. That’s right bitches Rio and Salem are back to go on a murking rampage on that ass. When I seen the opening scene of that game, my eyes was quite pleased with the improved graphics. The graphics are much crisper and detailed, enough so that you can see the fabric lines in your characters clothes. The colors seem more vibrant, the sounds are better for the most part; the controls are the same as the 1st game for the most part. They do feel sluggish and loose; hopefully this issue will be fixed in the actual game. There are some new things in the controls and to do with the controlling of interacting with the games environment. Example, if you click the R3 button it switches the cam view. The cam views are over the shoulder like in Resident Evil 5 and Dead Space.

In the 1st Army of 2, the cam view was a fixed view. Which personally do I like better you may ask? I like the over the shoulder view better, best way I can explain to you why that is; it’s because this view feels more natural to me and if you’re a hardcore gamer like me that explanation should sum it up for you.

Now even though I like this view better it does have a clunky feel to it in this game. For example when leaning against a wall it is easy to get confused on which shoulder you’re looking over. This should be auto adjusting; it would help save some confusion.

Also if you played the first Army of Two then you may remember how the characters would automatically climb a ladder when you pressed the button to climb. Well, in Army of Two 40th Day, you actually have to pushup or down on a ladder now, no more auto climb. Also sliding into cover is done a little different in this game. Instead of pressing triangle button when near cover, like in the 1st game; In this game sliding into cover is done by running (hold X button) when you’re near cover let go of the run button. Now this may take some practice because judging the right distance to release the run button can be tricky and if you misjudge it, well that just could lead to a bullet in the head.

Since we were talking about being in cover, let me tell you this. Blind fire from behind cover is a lot more difficult in this new game. If you played the 1st Army of Two you may remember, that when behind cover, you still had a crosshairs on the screen. Well in Army of Two The 40th Day, that luxury seems to be gone. All you have now, while perform blind fire is your instinct, judgment, and maybe a prayer.

Speaking of luxury, it seems that in Army of Two 40th Day they’ve added a few more new luxuries. The one that stands out most is the Moral System. It’s basically a karma system. You may be prompted to choose between 2 choices, one good, one bad. I would say for my review. Another newly added luxury is a rock, paper, scissors mini game. Sound pointless? Well there are many ways to use this mini game for fun. Say for example in the demo, you and your partner will come across situations where some bad guys are around the next corner. You want to be sneaky but your partner wants to go in guns blazing. Well play rock, paper, scissors to see which plan fate wants you to do. There are more luxuries I could tell you about but I will let you find out for yourself when you play the demo.

Army of Two 40th Day is definitely going to kick major ass. It has what it needs to be a very good game. The bigger and better looking environments, a great selection of weaponry at your mischievous needs, bigger better realistic looking explosions and the shining component of its unique 2 player co-op game play, not to mention that there are different game modes; as in, for example, a 4-man team or 2 vs. 2 vs. 2. If you’re like me and have a die hard loyal partner, then you and your partner have a must play on your hands The Army of Two 40th Day Demo. Don’t let this demo pass you by, get your practice on and prepare for the all out assault of the game coming 1/12/2010. Will you and your partner be able to handle it?

MURKCCS, not here to offend you, but here to inform you.
