BORDERLANDS DLC – The Zombie Island of Dr Ned

THE ZOMBIE ISLAND OF DR NED

The 4th addition to my reviews is the 1st DLC for Borderlands, The Zombie Island of Dr Ned. Everyone grab your fire element weapons we are going on a zombie roast. This DLC takes place in a far off distant, dark, gloomy, swampy corner of Pandora. After the event of finding the vault, you and your teammates set off to investigate the mysteries of Zombie Island. A place where one man tried to help mankind in his own demented, delusional, twisted way, the outcome free roaming, brain crunching zombies. There are over 20 missions that you and your friends can embark on. There’s plenty of zombie slaying to be done on these missions. Some missions can take a while to complete like collecting brains for a certain old friend or they can be extremely short like reactivating turrets. There are a few different locations to visit in this DLC. Most of the locations look the same but there are 2 locations that stand out. One is called Dead Haven which has a down and gloomy feel to it and the 2nd I’m not going to say since it would spoil the ending environment of the DLC.

There are about 5 different types of zombies you will encounter throughout Dr Ned’s Zombie Island. Some are easily disposed of but they can come in massive numbers sometimes well at lest it seems that way. Most of the time you will fight the standard flesh rotting, blue-ish skin, head leaning back zombies. All they do is either spit at you or they run up to you to slap you like a little schoolgirl. The most annoying are the Defiler zombies; these zombies can be some cheap bastards, that’s right I said it. The Defilers like to spew a stream of dark green puke at you, it kind of reminds me of The Exorcist. This dark green puke can be a pain in the ass, it covers the TV screen so you cant see shit and its slows you way down like walking in sludge. On top of that when you bust the Defiler to where he is low on health, the chicken shit turns tail and hauls ass up out of there. Chasing these bastards down may be necessary you have been advised. The next zombie type I feel I should warn you about is the crazy ass suicide bomber. These zombies carry around explosive barrels that they just love to throw at you. If they cant hit you with a barrel they will run up besides u and explode. One more thing about the suicide bomber zombies, when u shoot them they puff up until they explode. My best advice to you is snipe the barrel while the dumbass is holding it, turn the tables and make instant zombie mashed chunks. Now for the last zombie type I will inform you about, that’s the Frankenstein type zombie. This big bastard can soak up tons of hot lead like a bulletproof sponge. He also has some very powerful attacks that can wipe you out in no time, so be very careful. Just make sure to pump ungodly amounts of hot lead into his head,, big problem solved. There are a few more types of enemies to battle it out with so I will let you handle those yourself. Your best bets are to perform headshots as fast as possible, use fire element to roast those bad boys, or if things feel crowded smash’em in the chest with a few buckshots. Between all of the missions and the hordes of zombie opposition, this DLC can last 3 to 5 hours, which is decent, but for $9.99 I would have liked 10 hours at least.

I was also hoping the level cap would raise from 50 to at least 55. I mean there are level 51 enemies, so why the hell can’t we the gamers get to level 51, I am just saying WTF. Plus I was hoping for some better weapons, well that’s not a huge let down but it would have been nice. None of the guns in the DLC were any better then what I already had on me at the time I started the DLC. Other then it’s being very short and no new weapons deal, this DLC is just OK at best. It’s nothing great but it’s not awful. If you have a group of friends you enjoy playing the co-op with I would say go ahead and get it if you have the spare money. Overall I will give this DLC a standard 3 starts out of 5. Murk CCS has informed you.
